Super old outboard - Eska - aka Sears Gamefisher Ted Williams

I had to finally give up on my old outboard. I got this handed down from my dad, who got it from my grandad..

I took it out the other weekend for the first time in probably 10 years. I'd heard they are notoriously unreliable, and it just didn't seem like it was running very good...

When I got back to town, the next day I tried running it in a tank for a while, but I couldn't even get it to start!

So I checked the plugs, and NO SPARK from one cylinder.

I went to get some parts for it at the local shop. The guy laughed, and said, "man that thing is older than I am"... ( I thought it was around 1970 built but he seemed to think 60s.)

Anyhoo.... Tecumseh made the powerhead. They're out of business. No parts.

I'm going to keep it around and see if I can't find some kind of aftermarket coil for it, but if nothing, I guess it goes to the scrap yard!

And to think, I could have built this: snowmobile airboat

Eska made engines for many brand names and they were known to be dependable. Here is a couple of links to help you.
Parts are available.

Here is the book you probably should have.

Hi
I have an Eska 1974-A 4.5HP that someone gave me. Haven't had it running but it's good to know there are others around.

Don't give up! There are parts out there for them. I rebuilt one very similar to yours not too long ago. Keep searching the 'net, primarily for Eska parts. BTW, I ended up getting a cheap parts motor thru craigslist as well. Also, try replacing the plug first. Good luck!

I had one of the 7.5 hp Sears Gamefisher on a 14' Mirrocraft. The motor was generally reliable. The top half was air cooled and the submerged part was water cooled. All I ever did on the motor was change the spark plug every season and it kept on purring. Never needed any other parts. I gave it to a freind when I moved to Florida in 1985.

If you have one of these outboards good luck getting parts; Sears stopped selling them in 1986 I believe. You can call Sears and they may direct you to some supplier who may have parts for it. Good luck. Now have a Mercury Big foot 60 hp efi outboard, very, very good on gas.

Don't give up on the old girl yet! Google "antique outboard motors" and I'll bet you find a load of clubs and individuals that have3 parts and advice. I've got an old 1956 Johnson that needs attention after I dig into the honeydo list. LOL Good luck.

I have a 1973 Ted Williams Game Fisher 1200 for sale. $300 OBO Also have the Ted Williams 7.5 outboard that came with it. Both in really good condition. Motor runs great and looks to have very few hours on it. Boat, motor, and trailer all match and have been stored indoors. $550 for whole package. I am located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Don't know where you are. 913-669-6241

Hi everyone,
I bought a new project - Sears Gamefisher 3.6 hp, model 217.58513 at a garage sale. This thing is so old and beat up, that I can't tell what kind of fuel mixure it uses - 50:1 or 20:1. Does anyone know ? It will be a start....
Thanks, Marin
